See Colorful Wild Birds And Monkeys On A Uganda Safari

Uganda safari trips are a great way to experience African wildlife without the need to visit the usual overcrowded tourist areas to the south or the east. If you are an experienced safari traveler who has already been to see the Big Five in South Africa, you may be looking for something just a bit different from your next trip. Uganda can certainly offer you this, provided you are happy to sleep in fairly basic accommodation and put up with relatively primitive facilities. If you are looking to add to the collection of animals you have seen, Uganda could be just what you are looking for.

It has to be said at the start that if you are a traveler who likes expensive hotels and creature comforts that Uganda may well not be your best choice. If you have been to South Africa and have had experience of staying at hotels in Johannesburg or Pretoria, don't imagine that Uganda will be remotely similar. At best, you will have a dormitory, and at worst you will be camping and living as part of nature. For some, this will be a good thing, but just be sure that you are the right type of person before you travel.

An experienced safari hand who is looking to add monkeys and wild birds to the list of what they have seen will be especially interested in Uganda. You can see large numbers of gorillas and chimpanzees in Uganda, and there is a large diversity of bird life. Uganda is especially good for those who like to take cameras on safari to pick up some unusual shots. Some of the bird life is extremely colorful and they make great photographic subjects.

There was a time when Uganda would have been off the list of travel destinations for many due to political turmoil, but those days are thankfully gone. Although the country still borders regions with serious unrest, it is considered relatively safe. Provided you follow the advice which all travelers should be given, of taking advice from your consulate at the time of travel, you should not have any problems. The safari itself is safer than most, as there are fewer large predatory animals.

Booking a Uganda safari is not as quick or easy as booking a safari to Kenya or South Africa, because it has not yet achieved anything like the same degree of popularity. Your best bet is to find a local travel operator in the Kampala region who will understand the local market and know what they can offer you. Be prepared to camp or stay in dormitories with several other people if you want to get into the heart of the wilderness and see what is there to be seen. A willingness to share is essential for a Uganda safari.
