Is A Zimbabwe Safari Still A Safe Option?
Zimbabwe safari package trips are continuing to attract some followers despite the political issues in the country itself. It is easy to see why this region continues to be attractive to anyone planning a safari or a vacation where they are looking for spectacular scenery. It is also a relatively affordable trip as the country is in turmoil, but you will still need to pay for your flight to the African continent. Zimbabwe has many attractions across a very wide area, so you will need to do some planning and choosing to get the best from your trip.
If you are wondering whether or not you should go on a Zimbabwean vacation, the answer is that it really depends on who you are and what you are looking for. Firstly, you should not even think about going there if you are apprehensive about the political situation. The main attraction in the region, the Victoria Falls, is considered a safe area to visit, but this can only be in context of the overall situation there. It also needs to be pointed out that the Falls are visible from the other side, the Zambia side, and that this offers reduced risk for the traveler.
If you are intending to visit this region, it is important that you establish contact with other people who are in the same situation. This is no trip for those who are completely alone. There are still some tour operators offering trips, especially to the Falls and the northern area of the country, but demand has obviously diminished in recent times. Get a good, experienced local tour guide and make sure everyone stays in touch with a base somewhere outside of the area.
Safety is always the major issue with safari trips, but never more than in modern Zimbabwe. The area around Victoria Falls is regarded as safe, while the areas to the south are not. If you do decide to visit the area, make sure you travel in a group, and make sure that every individual maintains contact with their own people both within the tour operator group and further afield.
The booking procedure for a Zimbabwe safari is also important. Any tour operator should obviously be making you aware of the risks involved before you start, and of the consequences of contributing to this economy. If they don't do this, cross them off your list as being suspect. If they are taking their responsibility seriously, then they will assign you to a local guide with both experience of the area and knowledge of the current situation. Always be aware that you may need to leave in a hurry if you choose a Zimbabwe safari.
